When it comes to parenting, it’s always nice to have helpers to motivate our little ones. Along with Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, parents have the Tooth Fairly to put a smile on their children’s faces, and “she” can do it throughout the year. Since your child can lose up to 20 baby teeth before their permanent teeth come in, that’s a lot of visits over the years!
Today, dentists often use the idea of the Tooth Fairy to help your child’s budding awareness of oral health. The Tooth Fairy promotes this awareness with rewards for a toothy treasure, especially when you suggest that the Tooth Fairy values a healthy tooth more than a decaying specimen by offering a bigger reward for a nicer tooth. Parents can also leave a note from the Tooth Fairy along with the reward, praising their child for their good dental habits and encouraging them to keep up the good work.
To help your child start developing good oral hygiene habits, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) advises parents to bring in their child by their first birthday or within six months after their first tooth comes in. You can expect your child’s teeth to begin erupting around six months of age.
At our practice in La Vista, Nebraska, we encourage our patients to enlist the aid of the Tooth Fairy to help create oral health awareness in your child. To schedule your child’s next visit, please call (402) 932.1177 today and let Dr. Greg Weeder and our team help your child create a lifetime of healthy smiles!
